Fishing the Keys:
The Florida Keys has more visitors who come to fish than anywhere else in the world. There are many ways to enjoy fishing in the Keys. We would recommend at least one day with a hired captain. A captain can guide you around the Keys waters and help you find the fish. We have captains we can recommend, just ask.
- Blue Water or Deep Sea Fishing: There are many blue water captains in the Upper Keys. They typically use the larger boats with specially designed deep-water hulls. These captains will take you most times beyond the reef and into the deeper waters, 6 to 25 miles off shore. You can catch a variety of fish depending on season, conditions, bait and location. Take some anti seasickness pills because the waves are larger in the deep ocean. A full day charter runs about $500 - $900 plus 15 to 20 percent tip for the mate. Most boats accommodate 4 – 6 people.
- Back Country or Flats fishing: There are also many backcountry guides in the Upper Keys. These are typically smaller boats designed to travel in shallow waters. These captains will generally travel the Florida Bay or Oceanside reefs. You can also catch a variety fish on the flats. A full day charter costs $400 - $500 plus tip and the boats will accommodate 1 – 4 people, depending on the boat.
- Party Boat: Party boats will accommodate larger groups of people for reef and deep water fishing. This is less expensive than personally guided trips; cost is approximately $ 25 to $ 40 per spot.
