EXPERIENCE OUR FAMILY FRIENDLY ECO ADVENTURES

What really makes the Florida Keys such a spectacular place to visit is its unique eco system. Whether you want to kayak through mangrove tunnels or hike the Everglades, there’s plenty in our great outdoors to be discovered.

KAYAKING:

The Keys are a great place to kayak. We offer kayaks at our resort for free and you’re welcome to bring your own or rent one but paddling around the mangrove forests should not be missed. There are many great places to kayak in the area; here are four of our favorites.

JOHN PENNEKAMP STATE PARK, MM 102

(Great) You can rent a Kayak from the park and just paddle around the park. It is fun for an afternoon. There is lots of fish life around the park

COMMUNITY HARBOR, MM 92

(Good) You can get to this harbor from our beach. It has lots of canals into the mangrove forest and small islands to paddle around.

ROBBIE’S MARINA, MM 77

(Great) Paddle under large canopies of mangroves, with winding canals. Lots of fish and bird life. From here it is an easy paddle to Indian Key. This is the old site of a 1830s wrecker’s settlement. These activities are must do for the kayakers.

BAHIA HONDA STATE PARK, MM 39

(Great) Paddle down the coastline following one the best beaches in the Keys. It has a beautiful coastline surrounded by clear, clean waters. There are also nesting water birds in the area.

WALKING TRAILS:

LONG KEY STATE PARK, MM 67.5

(Great) This trail is about 1 ¼ miles long and it takes you through several types of ecosystems.

JOHN PENNEKAMP STATE PARK, MM 102

(Good) These 2 trails are short and they travel through two different ecosystems, hardwood hammock and mangrove wetlands.

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK

(Great) There are many trails throughout the park. You can visit many different ecosystems and walk as long or short as you like. There will be travel time to the park and within the park. The area can get very buggy in the summer.

CRANE POINT HAMMOCK, MM 50.5

(Great) This is a 64 acre tropical area of hardwood trees and walking trails. There are 2.5 miles of walking trails through several ecosystems. The park can get very buggy in the summer.

PIGEON KEY AND OLD 7-MILE BRIDGE, MM 48

(Good) The old 7 mile bridge to the pigeon key is 2 miles long over open ocean. Lots of fish life is usually in the western end shallows.

(Great) Everglades National Park, outside of Florida City, is a great way to see the natural Florida. You will find lots of wildlife, great walking trails, canoeing, and bike riding. The park is only 1 hour north of the Keys. The Shark valley trail is farther away, 1.5 hours travel time, and an absolute must do in the winter.
